Joyce Kauffman is a 1992 graduate of Northeastern University Law School and specializes in family law, co-parent adoption, and mediation, with an emphasis on legal issues affecting lesbian and gay families. Attorney Kauffman has written numerous articles on these issues and is a frequent speaker at seminars, conferences, and in community settings on issues of importance to lesbian and gay parents, co-parent adoption, and family law, and more recently, on how same-sex marriage impacts the lesbian and gay community.
Attorney Kauffman is a past Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association (MLGBA) and past chair of the MLGBA’s Family Law Section. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Family Pride Coalition, a national organization advocating for lesbian and gay families. She is the recipient of the 2003 Barney Frank Award from the Massachusetts School of Law, the 2005 Fisher Davenport Award from the Family Pride Coalition honoring her for her contributions to lesbian and gay families, and the recipient of the 2007 Gwen Bloomingdale Pioneer Spirit Award from the MLGBA.
