Steven Ballard represents individuals in the courts of Greater Boston, frequently in challenging, high-conflict divorce and family law cases. Most of the cases he handles ultimately lead to negotiated settlements. Some of the most challenging cases do indeed go all the way to trial; he thus conducts several multi-day trials in a typical year, as either solo or lead counsel. His practice, however, offers a wide range of options, from full representation in divorce and family court litigation through trial, post-trial representation and appellate advocacy, to “out of court” family law representations, as-needed “unbundled legal services” representation through the “limited assistance representation” program, and legal consultant to parties in mediation. He also frequently handles domestic violence cases, including restraining order cases and related criminal cases, in the district courts and family courts.

Steven is proud to have volunteered his services in court-connected mediation, court-connected conciliation, and as Lawyer for the Day in family courts of Greater Boston. He has been quoted on divorce law issues in the Boston Globe, the Boston Business Journal, and elsewhere in the media. He has been a member of many professional organizations, including the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and the Association for Conflict Resolution, and has presented workshops on issues including shared parenting, child support, mediation and conciliation, at regional and national conferences. He is a regular faculty panel member of “Divorce Matters For You” workshops offered by The Divorce Center, Inc., serves as a member of the Board of Directors, and as Treasurer.
